Application Opens July 2025
Application Deadline August 31, 2025
The AAID Foundation launched the Smile, Veteran!™ program to give those who have served our country the opportunity to meet with an AAID-credentialed dentist and receive dental implants at little to no cost. Your participation is crucial in making this program a success and providing much-needed care to our Veterans.
The application for this program is started by a Participating Doctor and not by the Veteran patient. Participating dentists are indicated in the AAID Find an Implant Dentist search at www.aaid-implant.org.
AAID Credentialed Participating Doctors
Current Participating Doctors
Thank you for responding to the great need for dental care for our Veterans. Credentialed Participating Doctors who have a Veteran in their office they would like to assist, and have already signed up as a Participating Doctor, may complete the Veteran application during the program period. The online application for Veterans is now open and will close on August 31. Program participation is limited to 4-6 patients each program period. Together, we will change the lives of Veterans in our communities.
New Providers
Credentialed members of the AAID who wish to join the Smile, Veteran™ program as a Participating Doctor may do so at any time. Click "APPLY" to complete the Participating Doctor Contact Information Entry form and complete acknowledgments to sign up as a new provider for the program. You will receive follow up information from staff upon completion of this task. The official application for new Veteran patients to join the program is now open and will close on August 31, 2025.
Eligibility & Program Guidelines
Doctor Eligibility Criteria
Treatment providers participating in the Smile, Veteran!™ program must meet the following criteria:
- Must be an AAID-credentialed practicing dentist (Associate Fellow or Fellow);
- Must be legally entitled to practice dentistry in the U.S. and currently licensed to practice dentistry (licensure must not have been suspended, disqualified, or prohibited in any way).
Program Guidelines
- The Doctor agrees to provide all services on a voluntary, pro bono basis, with no financial obligation to the patient or the program. This includes any dental care rendered by the Doctor and/or their dental office as part of the Smile, Veteran!™ initiative.
- The Doctor should be open to collaborating with corporate sponsors who donate implants, materials, and bone grafts for each case. Current partners include ZimVie Dental, Glidewell Laboratories, and Impladent, Ltd.
- Upon enrollment, the Doctor will receive a Participating Doctor Handbook with detailed instructions on utilizing donated materials.
- Prior to submitting an application on the Veteran's behalf, the Doctor will:
- Schedule the patient for a comprehensive evaluation;
- Create a treatment plan based on diagnosis.
To see a list of current Participating Doctors, please use the AAID Find an Implant Dentist search at www.aaid-implant.org.
Veteran Potential Patient Participants
The Veteran portion of this application is now available and closes on August 31. The application for this program is started by a participating dentist and not by the patient.
The following steps are required before submission:
STEP 1 AAID-credentialed Participating Doctor Contact Entry
Participating Doctors must complete their contact information entry to begin the application. The veteran patient must see an AAID-credentialed doctor participating in the program to apply (name of Doctor will be required upon eligibility entry); Potential patients can use the "Find an Implant Dentist in Your Area" tool to locate AAID-credentialed dentists in your area. Not all AAID members are program providers. Look for the Smile, Veteran!™ logo next to the Doctor's name:

STEP 2 Appointment & Sponsorship
After the Veteran finds a Participating Doctor, the next step is for the dentist to see the patient and agree to sponsor them in the Smile, Veteran!™ Program. This sponsorship is a crucial step that must be completed before any required documentation can be submitted. During this step, the dentist will evaluate the patient's dental needs and determine if they are a suitable candidate for the treatment. If the dentist agrees to sponsor the patient, they will then proceed with the necessary paperwork and documentation to formally submit the application for the next program cycle.
It's important to note that this sponsorship step ensures that the dentist is committed to providing the necessary care and support for the Veteran throughout the program. This collaborative approach helps us ensure that each Veteran receives the best possible care and attention.
STEP 3 Submit Required Documentation:
- DD-214 form showing honorable or general discharge from the Armed Forces;
- Proof of residence (utility bill or current bill with street address);
- Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) summary of benefits letter clearly explaining any disability benefits received by VA.
FINAL STEP Apply for Program Participation
If the Veteran meets eligibility requirements, the application will move to the next stage of the process. The next stage is completion of a full application for the program. Each completed application is reviewed and carefully considered by the selection committee after the application closes.
Program participation is limited. If selected for the program, both Participating Doctor and Veteran patient will be required to sign privacy acts and certification agreements. Patient will be asked to sign a release for a portion of dental records and agree to have a medical check-up within 1 year of joining the program by a personal physician responsible for medical maintenance beyond services rendered as a part of the Smile, Veteran!™ program.
The Foundation is not accepting applicants from the general public for eligibility review at this time. Participating Doctors must submit the application on Veteran patient's behalf, through the application portal. Submitting an application does not guarantee selection for the program.
Other Dental Charities
This program is for veterans only and does not accept other types of patients. We understand the need for timely dental care and encourage other dental patients to reach out to alternative charities through which they might qualify for services. Here are a few to consider:
